Information of the Project

The refurbishment of Cloud Student Homes in Canterbury represents a successful blend of modern design and high-level safety. The project was delivered through a partnership between Alexander James Contracts and Online Metal Store Ltd, who supplied the full aluminium panel and insulation system. The aim was to improve the visual appeal of the residential building while ensuring full compliance with modern fire safety and insulation standards, ultimately creating a more efficient and secure living environment for its residents.

Selecting Systems

The system selected for this project was a 3mm aluminium flat face-fixed panel solution, supported by a 140mm bracket and rail system for maximum structural integrity. To enhance thermal and acoustic performance, an 80mm Rockwool Duo Slab was installed alongside Tyvek Firecurb breather membrane, covering a total façade area of 165 square metres. These materials were chosen for their strength, modern appearance, and ability to contribute to both building performance and compliance. The panels were coated in a vibrant Feather Green (RAL 160 80 20), applied using a durable polyester powder coating. This finish provided a fresh, contemporary look while offering lasting protection from the elements.

Compliant Fire Safety

Fire protection was a key consideration throughout the project. The complete cladding system achieved an A2-s1,d0 fire rating, confirming that all materials used were non-combustible, emitted very little smoke, and did not contribute to flame spread. This high rating ensures that the system meets all applicable building regulations and provides an added layer of protection for student residents within a multi-storey setting.
