2mm Aluminium Fascia - 2.5m Length | Type 4
2mm Aluminium Fascia - 2.5m Length | Type 4
Where the eaves detail calls for a fascia that wraps back on itself at the bottom, creating a reverse L-return that fully encloses the soffit junction and provides the maximum possible rigidity, the Type 4 profile is the one to specify. It is the most complex standard fascia profile in the OMS range, with a four bend form that creates a reverse L-shaped channel at the bottom of the fascia.
This profile is supplied in 2.5 metre lengths rather than the 3 metre lengths used for Types 1, 2 and 3. The shorter length reflects the additional material complexity of the four bend profile and the tighter tolerances required during fabrication. On architect specified projects, premium domestic builds and commercial facades across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and the wider South East, the Type 4 profile gives the eaves a precision engineered finish that the simpler types cannot match.
Product Overview
The 2mm aluminium fascia board Type 4 from Online Metal Store Ltd is supplied in 2.5 metre lengths with a reverse L-return profile. The top return tucks behind the roof line, and the bottom forms a reverse L-shaped return that fully encloses the soffit junction. This is the most complex profile in the standard fascia range, a step up from the Type 3 fascia (U-return channel), two steps from the Type 2 fascia (bottom lip), and three steps from the Type 1 fascia (open bottom edge).
Available in 14 depth options from 150mm to 800mm, the fascia is custom fabricated at our Chelmsford, Essex workshop and powder coated in any RAL colour. The finish matches the rest of the OMS roofline system, including aluminium soffits, aluminium copings and aluminium rainwater goods. Key Benefits
Reverse L-Return for Maximum Soffit Enclosure
The four bend profile creates a reverse L-shaped channel at the bottom of the fascia that fully encloses the soffit junction. This provides the maximum rigidity and wind resistance of any standard profile, with the soffit positively locked into the return from both directions.
Zero Maintenance Roofline
Aluminium does not rot, warp, crack or peel. The polyester powder coat finish resists fading, chipping and UV degradation. Once fitted, the fascia requires nothing more than an occasional wipe down.
14 Depth Options
Sizes from 150mm to 800mm fit everything from shallow domestic eaves to deep commercial fascia.
Powder Coated in Any RAL Colour
Every fascia board is colour matched before dispatch. The finish is consistent across every length, corner and fitting in the system.
2.5 Metre Lengths
Supplied in 2.5m lengths rather than 3m. This means slightly more joints on a long run compared to Types 1, 2 and 3, but the additional material complexity of the four bend profile requires the shorter fabrication length. Each joint is covered with a colour matched joint cover for a flush finish.
Corrosion Resistant for the UK Climate
Aluminium does not rust. The 2mm gauge provides structural rigidity, and the powder coat adds further protection.
UK Manufactured with Fast Turnaround
Every fascia board is fabricated at our workshop in Chelmsford, Essex.

Type 1 vs Type 2 vs Type 3 vs Type 4: Which Fascia Profile?
Type 1: Single Bend (£49.85/3m)
One bend at the top. Open bottom edge. Simplest profile. See Type 1 fascia.
Type 2: Two Bends (£49.85/3m)
Top return and bottom lip. Soffit rests against the lip. See Type 2 fascia.
Type 3: Three Bends (£53.10/3m)
Top return, face, and U-return channel. Soffit slides into the channel. See Type 3 fascia.
Type 4: Four Bends (£53.10/2.5m) – This Product
Top return, face, and reverse L-return at the bottom. The most complex and enclosed profile. Soffit is fully locked into the reverse return. Supplied in 2.5m lengths rather than 3m due to fabrication complexity.
Choosing the Right Type
All four types are available in the same 14 depths and the same any RAL colour options. Type 4 is the same price per length as Type 3 (£53.10) but in a shorter 2.5m length, making it the highest cost per metre. Choose Type 4 when the specification requires a reverse L-return or when maximum soffit enclosure and rigidity are the priority.
How to Fit Aluminium Fascia Type 4
Fix the fascia board to the rafter tails or fascia backing timber using corrosion resistant screws at 400mm to 600mm centres. The top return tucks behind the roof deck or bargeboard. Once the fascia is in place, engage the soffit board with the reverse L-return at the bottom.
Leave a 3mm expansion gap between each 2.5 metre length. Cover the joint with a colour matched joint cover bonded with low modulus silicone. At corners, use factory formed Type 4 external and internal corners. At the end of each run, finish with a Type 4 stopend. Seal all joints with colour coded sealant and use colour coded fasteners for visible fixings.
Once the fascia and soffit are in place, mount the half round gutter using fascia gutter brackets fixed to the fascia face.
Where Aluminium Fascia Type 4 Is Used
Architect Specified Projects
On architect led projects where the eaves detail is drawn with a reverse L-return, the Type 4 profile matches the specification. For a completed project example, see the facade upgrade case study.
Premium Domestic New Builds
On high end domestic properties across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and the South East where the eaves detail is a defining visual feature of the exterior.
Commercial Facades
On commercial buildings, retail units and office blocks where the fascia forms part of the visible facade design and the specification calls for the most enclosed profile available.
Exposed and Coastal Locations
On buildings in exposed positions where wind uplift on the soffit is a design consideration. The reverse L-return provides the strongest soffit retention of any standard profile.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Type 4 aluminium fascia?
Type 4 is a four bend aluminium fascia profile with a reverse L-return at the bottom. It is the most complex standard profile in the range, providing the maximum soffit enclosure and rigidity. Compare with Type 1 (single bend), Type 2 (two bend), and Type 3 (three bend U-return).
Why is Type 4 fascia 2.5m instead of 3m?
The four bend reverse L-return profile requires tighter tolerances during fabrication than the simpler three, two, and single bend profiles. The 2.5m length keeps these tolerances achievable while maintaining a consistent, high quality finish across every length.
What size Type 4 fascia do I need?
Measure the vertical depth from the top of the rafter tail to the bottom of the reverse L-return. Available in 14 sizes from 150mm to 800mm.
Is Type 4 fascia better than Type 3?
Type 4 provides a reverse L-return which fully locks the soffit in, versus the U-channel on Type 3. Whether it is "better" depends on the specification. Type 4 is the same price per length but in a shorter 2.5m length, so the per metre cost is higher. Choose based on the eaves detail required.
Can Type 4 fascia be colour matched?
Yes. Powder coated in any RAL colour. Order alongside the half round gutter, soffit and coping in the same RAL code.
How do you fit aluminium fascia Type 4?
Fix to rafter tails at 400mm to 600mm centres. Tuck the top return behind the roof line. Engage the soffit with the reverse L-return. Leave a 3mm expansion gap between 2.5m lengths, covered with a colour matched joint cover bonded with low modulus silicone.
Aluminium vs uPVC vs Timber Fascia
Aluminium
Strong, rigid, corrosion resistant. Any RAL colour. 25+ year lifespan, zero maintenance. Fire classification A2-s1,d0 (non-combustible), suitable for buildings of any height.
uPVC
Cheaper upfront. Warps in heat, brittle in cold, discolours over time. Poorer fire performance.
Timber
Requires regular painting, prone to rot and insect damage, shortest service life. Browse the full fascia and soffits collection.
