2mm Aluminium Fascia – 3m Length | Type 1

Timber fascia boards are one of the most maintenance heavy details on any building. Within a few years of installation, the paint starts to peel, moisture gets in, and the wood softens. Before long you are up a ladder scraping, filling and repainting, or replacing entire sections that have rotted through. On houses across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Basildon and the wider South East, it is one of the most common and most preventable maintenance problems on the entire building.

Aluminium fascia replaces timber or PVCu with a material that does not rot, does not warp, does not crack in frost, and does not fade in UV light. Once it is fitted and powder coated, you do not touch it again. The colour stays sharp, the profile stays straight, and the roofline looks the way it did on the day it was installed. For 25 years or more.

Product Overview

The 2mm aluminium fascia board from Online Metal Store Ltd is supplied in 3 metre lengths in the Type 1 profile. Type 1 is a single bend fascia with a clean, square edge face and a short return at the top that tucks behind the soffit line. It is the simplest and most widely used profile for domestic and commercial rooflines where a flat, modern finish is required.

Available in 14 depth options from 150mm to 800mm (in 50mm increments), the fascia is made to fit your exact roofline depth. Each length is custom fabricated at our Chelmsford, Essex workshop and powder coated in any RAL colour before dispatch. The finish matches the rest of the OMS roofline system, including aluminium soffits, aluminium copings and aluminium rainwater goods. For rooflines that need a more complex profile, see Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4 fascia options in the fascia and soffits collection.

Key Benefits

Zero Maintenance Roofline

Aluminium fascia does not rot, warp, crack or peel. The polyester powder coat finish is baked onto the metal, not painted on top, so it resists fading, chipping and UV degradation. Once fitted, the fascia requires nothing more than an occasional wipe down to keep it looking sharp.

14 Depth Options for Any Roofline

With sizes from 150mm to 800mm, the fascia fits everything from a shallow eaves detail on a modern extension to a deep fascia on a commercial building or period property refurbishment. Measure the depth of your existing fascia board (or the rafter tail depth plus any required overhang) and select the closest size.

Type 1 Profile: Clean, Square Edge Finish

The Type 1 profile has a single bend at the top, creating a flat face with a short return that tucks behind the soffit. It gives a clean, modern appearance with no visible fixings on the face. This is the most popular profile for domestic new builds, extensions and refurbishment projects where a simple, contemporary roofline is the brief.

Powder Coated in Any RAL Colour

Every fascia board is colour matched before dispatch. Whether you need Anthracite Grey RAL 7016, Black RAL 9005, White RAL 9010, or a bespoke colour to match your windows and doors, the finish is consistent across every fascia length, corner and joiner in the system.

3 Metre Lengths for Fewer Joints

Each length covers 3 metres of roofline, reducing the number of joints and keeping the run visually clean. Where lengths meet, a joint cover provides a flush, colour matched connection.

Corrosion Resistant for the UK Climate

Aluminium does not rust. The 2mm gauge provides structural rigidity across even the deepest fascia sizes, and the powder coat finish adds a further barrier against salt spray, driving rain and the prolonged damp that rooflines across Essex, Kent and the Home Counties face year round.

UK Manufactured with Fast Turnaround

Every fascia board is fabricated at our workshop in Chelmsford, Essex. We manufacture to order and keep lead times short.

Choosing the Right Fascia Depth

Measure the vertical depth of the area the fascia needs to cover. On a new build, this is typically the depth of the rafter tail from the underside of the roof deck to the bottom of the rafter, plus any required overhang below. On a refurbishment, measure the existing fascia board you are replacing.

  • 150mm to 250mm: Standard domestic eaves on modern extensions, garages and single storey additions. The most common range for typical UK housing.

  • 300mm to 400mm: Deeper eaves on larger detached properties, bungalows with exposed rafter tails, and some commercial buildings.

  • 450mm to 600mm: Deep fascia details on commercial properties, schools, apartment blocks and buildings with oversized rafter depths or integrated ventilation zones.

  • 650mm to 800mm: Extra deep fascia for large commercial or industrial buildings, or where the fascia doubles as a facade element. Fascia boards over 400mm may require palletised delivery.

How to Fit Aluminium Fascia Boards

Fix the fascia board to the rafter tails or fascia backing timber using corrosion resistant screws. The top return of the Type 1 profile tucks behind the soffit board, creating a clean junction between the two components.

Leave a 3mm expansion gap between each 3 metre length. Cover the joint with a colour matched joint cover bonded in place with low modulus silicone sealant. At corners, use factory formed corner pieces for a clean, consistent angle. Fix the fascia at approximately 400mm to 600mm centres, ensuring all fixings are into solid timber and the board sits straight and flush along the full run.

Once the fascia is in place, fit the aluminium soffit into the top return of the fascia and against the wall plate or rafter foot. Where the gutter sits on the fascia, use fascia gutter brackets to mount the half round gutter directly to the fascia face. Seal all fixings and joints with colour coded sealant for a weathertight, colour matched finish.

Where Aluminium Fascia Is Used

Domestic New Builds and Extensions

On new build housing and domestic extensions across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and the wider South East, aluminium fascia is increasingly specified as the standard roofline material. It arrives on site powder coated in the correct colour, fits quickly, and never needs maintenance. For housebuilders, that means no callbacks for peeling paint or rotten boards.

Timber Fascia Replacement

Replacing rotten or high maintenance timber fascia with aluminium is one of the most popular domestic refurbishment jobs in the UK. The aluminium fascia covers the existing rafter tails (or a new backing board) and gives the property a fresh, maintenance free roofline that will last decades.

Commercial and Industrial Buildings

On commercial units, retail parks, schools, office blocks and warehouses, the 14 depth options and any RAL colour coating make the fascia adaptable to any eaves detail. The 3 metre lengths and factory formed corners speed up installation across long, continuous runs.

Period Property Refurbishment

On older properties where the original timber fascia has deteriorated, aluminium provides a lightweight, durable replacement. Powder coated in a heritage colour, it sits discreetly on the roofline without the ongoing maintenance that timber demands. Properties in conservation areas across Colchester, Billericay and Maldon benefit from the period appropriate colour matching.

Architect Specified Projects

On architect led residential and commercial projects, the Type 1 fascia integrates with aluminium soffits, copings and rainwater goods to create a fully coordinated roofline system in a single material and colour. For a real world example, see the aluminium facade upgrade case study.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is aluminium fascia used for?

A fascia board is the vertical board that runs along the lower edge of the roof, covering the ends of the rafters and supporting the guttering. Aluminium fascia does the same job as timber or PVCu but with far better long term performance. It does not rot, does not warp, and does not need repainting.

What is a Type 1 fascia profile?

Type 1 is the simplest aluminium fascia profile, with a single bend at the top creating a flat, square edge face and a short return that tucks behind the soffit. It gives a clean, modern look and is the most widely used profile for domestic and commercial rooflines. For rooflines that need a more complex shape, OMS also supplies Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4 profiles with additional bends. See the full fascia and soffits range.

What size aluminium fascia do I need?

Measure the vertical depth of the area the fascia needs to cover, from the top of the rafter tail (where the soffit meets) to the bottom edge where you want the fascia to finish. This product is available in 14 sizes from 150mm to 800mm. The most common domestic sizes are 150mm to 250mm.

Is aluminium fascia better than PVCu?

Aluminium is stronger, more rigid, and holds its colour far longer than PVCu. PVCu can warp in heat, become brittle in cold, and discolour over time, especially in darker colours. Aluminium fascia maintains its shape and finish for 25 years or more. The upfront cost is higher, but the lifetime cost is lower because there is no maintenance, no repainting and no replacement.

Can aluminium fascia be colour matched to my guttering?

Yes. The fascia is powder coated in any RAL colour before dispatch. If you order the fascia alongside the half round gutter, soffit and coping in the same RAL code, every component arrives colour matched for a fully coordinated roofline.

How do you fit aluminium fascia boards?

Fix to rafter tails or fascia backing timber with corrosion resistant screws at 400mm to 600mm centres. Leave a 3mm expansion gap between lengths and cover with a colour matched joint cover bonded with low modulus silicone. Tuck the top return behind the soffit board. Use factory formed corner pieces at all angles.

Aluminium vs PVCu vs Timber Fascia

Aluminium

Strong, rigid, corrosion resistant, and available in any RAL colour. Does not rot, warp, crack or fade. Lasts 25 years or more with no maintenance. Achieves a fire classification of A2-s1,d0 (non-combustible), making it suitable for buildings of any height. The higher upfront cost is offset by zero ongoing maintenance and a longer service life than any competing material.

PVCu

Cheaper upfront and widely available. PVCu fascia is adequate for budget projects, but it warps in heat, becomes brittle in cold, and discolours over time. Darker PVCu colours fade noticeably within a few years. PVCu also has poorer fire performance than aluminium and is not suitable for buildings over 18 metres under current Building Regulations.

Timber

Timber fascia is the traditional choice but requires regular painting, is prone to rot and insect damage, and has the shortest service life of the three materials. For any project where a long lasting, low maintenance roofline is the priority, aluminium is the better investment. Part of a Complete Aluminium Roofline System

The Type 1 fascia is one component in a fully colour matched aluminium roofline. Ordering every element from a single supplier ensures consistent colour, consistent profile and a professional finish across the entire eaves detail. The complete roofline system includes:

For the wider roofline, the fascia sits alongside aluminium copings, drip trims and the full rainwater goods range. For inspiration, see the facade upgrade case study.

Standards and Compliance

The powder coat finish is applied in line with BS EN 12206-1 for powder organic coatings on aluminium. Powder coated aluminium fascia achieves a fire classification of A2-s1,d0 under BS EN 13501-1, making it non-combustible and suitable for use on buildings of any height including high rise residential projects over 18 metres. On NHBC registered sites, the roofline system should meet the requirements of Chapter 7.2 (roofing). Getting these details right protects the warranty, the building and the people inside it.
