2mm Aluminium Fascia – 3m Length | Type 2

On plenty of rooflines, the fascia needs to do more than just cover the rafter ends. It needs to engage with the soffit board at the bottom as well as the top, creating a closed, rigid eaves box that keeps everything held together and sealed against the weather. That is what the Type 2 profile is designed for. Where the Type 1 has a single bend at the top, the Type 2 adds a second bend at the bottom, creating a return lip that tucks behind or supports the soffit from below.

This makes Type 2 the go-to profile on rooflines where the soffit needs a positive engagement at both the wall end and the fascia end. On domestic extensions, new builds and refurbishments across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Basildon and the wider South East, it gives the eaves detail a more finished, enclosed appearance than a simple single bend fascia.

Product Overview

The 2mm aluminium fascia board Type 2 from Online Metal Store Ltd is supplied in 3 metre lengths with a two bend profile. The top return tucks behind the roof deck or bargeboard, and the bottom return creates a lip that engages with the soffit board, holding it in position and closing off the eaves box. This double engagement gives the eaves detail greater rigidity and a more enclosed, finished look than the single bend Type 1 fascia.

Available in 14 depth options from 150mm to 800mm, the fascia is custom fabricated at our Chelmsford, Essex workshop and powder coated in any RAL colour. The finish matches the rest of the OMS roofline system, including aluminium soffits, aluminium copings and aluminium rainwater goods. For rooflines requiring more complex profiles, see Type 3 and Type 4 in the fascia and soffits collection.

Key Benefits

Two Bend Profile for a Closed Eaves Box

The top return tucks behind the roof line and the bottom return engages the soffit board. This creates a rigid, enclosed eaves detail where both the fascia and soffit are positively held at both edges. The result is a cleaner, tighter junction that is less prone to movement in wind.

Zero Maintenance Roofline

Aluminium does not rot, warp, crack or peel. The polyester powder coat finish is baked onto the metal and resists fading, chipping and UV degradation. Once fitted, the fascia requires nothing more than an occasional wipe down.

14 Depth Options for Any Roofline

With sizes from 150mm to 800mm, the fascia fits everything from a shallow domestic eaves to a deep commercial fascia. Measure the rafter tail depth and soffit engagement requirement and select the closest size.

Powder Coated in Any RAL Colour

Every fascia board is colour matched before dispatch. Whether you need Anthracite Grey RAL 7016, Black RAL 9005, White RAL 9010, or a bespoke colour, the finish is consistent across every fascia length, corner and fitting in the system.

3 Metre Lengths for Fewer Joints

Each length covers 3 metres of roofline, reducing joint count and keeping the run visually clean.

Corrosion Resistant for the UK Climate

Aluminium does not rust. The 2mm gauge provides structural rigidity, and the powder coat adds further protection against salt spray, driving rain and prolonged damp.

UK Manufactured with Fast Turnaround

Every fascia board is fabricated at our workshop in Chelmsford, Essex.

Type 1 vs Type 2: Which Fascia Profile Do I Need?

Type 1: Single Bend

The Type 1 fascia has one bend at the top, creating a flat face with a return that tucks behind the soffit line. The bottom edge is a clean, open cut. Type 1 is the simplest profile and works well where the soffit is fixed independently to a wall plate or batten, and the fascia simply covers the rafter ends.

Type 2: Two Bends

Type 2 adds a second bend at the bottom, creating a return lip that engages with the soffit board. This closes the eaves box more completely and gives the soffit a positive fixing point at the fascia end. Choose Type 2 when the eaves detail needs an enclosed, rigid box with the soffit locked in at both edges, or when the specification calls for a two bend profile.

Same Price, Same Sizes, Same Colour Range

Both Type 1 and Type 2 are priced at £49.85 per 3m length, available in the same 14 depths and the same any RAL colour options. The choice comes down to the eaves detail your project requires.

How to Fit Aluminium Fascia Type 2

Fix the fascia board to the rafter tails or fascia backing timber using corrosion resistant screws at 400mm to 600mm centres. The top return tucks behind the roof deck or bargeboard. The bottom return lip should engage with the soffit board as the soffit is pushed into place from below.

Leave a 3mm expansion gap between each 3 metre length. Cover the joint with a colour matched joint cover bonded with low modulus silicone. At corners, use factory formed Type 2 external corners and internal corners. At the end of each run, finish with a Type 2 stopend. Seal all joints with colour coded sealant and use colour coded fasteners for visible fixings.

Once the fascia and soffit are in place, mount the half round gutter using fascia gutter brackets fixed to the fascia face.

Where Aluminium Fascia Type 2 Is Used

Domestic New Builds and Extensions

On modern housing across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and the South East, the Type 2 profile is commonly specified where the eaves detail requires the soffit to be positively engaged at the fascia end. This is typical on new build extensions, dormer windows and any roofline where a closed, rigid eaves box is part of the design brief.

Timber Fascia Replacement

When replacing rotten timber fascia, Type 2 is often chosen where the original detail had a bottom return that held the soffit in place. Matching the original profile ensures the soffit fits correctly without needing to be re-fixed to the wall independently.

Commercial and Industrial Buildings

On commercial units, schools, office blocks and apartment buildings, the enclosed eaves box created by the Type 2 profile provides a cleaner, more finished appearance and better resistance to wind uplift on the soffit.

Architect Specified Projects

On architect led projects where the eaves detail is drawn with a specific profile, the Type 2 two bend fascia matches the typical specification for an enclosed eaves box. For a completed project example, see the facade upgrade case study.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Type 2 aluminium fascia?

Type 2 is a two bend aluminium fascia profile. It has a return at the top (which tucks behind the roof line) and a return at the bottom (which engages with the soffit board). This creates a closed, rigid eaves box. Compare it with the Type 1 fascia which has only a single bend at the top and an open bottom edge.

What is the difference between Type 1 and Type 2 fascia?

Type 1 has one bend (top return only). Type 2 has two bends (top return and bottom return lip). The bottom return on Type 2 engages with the soffit, creating an enclosed eaves box. Type 1 leaves the bottom edge open, with the soffit fixed independently. Both are the same price, same sizes, and same colour range. The choice depends on your eaves detail.

What size Type 2 fascia do I need?

Measure the vertical depth from the top of the rafter tail to the point where the bottom return needs to sit (typically the underside of the soffit engagement). This product is available in 14 sizes from 150mm to 800mm. The most common domestic sizes are 150mm to 250mm.

Is Type 2 fascia better than Type 1?

Neither is better in absolute terms. Type 2 gives a more enclosed eaves box with the soffit positively engaged at both edges. Type 1 is simpler and works where the soffit is fixed independently. Choose based on your eaves detail, not as a quality comparison.

Can Type 2 fascia be colour matched to my guttering?

Yes. The fascia is powder coated in any RAL colour. Order it alongside the half round gutter, soffit and coping in the same RAL code for a fully coordinated roofline.

How do you fit aluminium fascia Type 2?

Fix to rafter tails with corrosion resistant screws at 400mm to 600mm centres. Tuck the top return behind the roof line. Push the soffit into the bottom return lip. Leave a 3mm expansion gap between lengths, covered with a colour matched joint cover bonded with low modulus silicone.

Aluminium vs PVCu vs Timber Fascia

Aluminium

Strong, rigid, corrosion resistant, and available in any RAL colour. Does not rot, warp, crack or fade. Lasts 25 years or more with no maintenance. Fire classification A2-s1,d0 (non-combustible), suitable for buildings of any height.

uPVC

Cheaper upfront but warps in heat, becomes brittle in cold, and discolours over time. Darker colours fade noticeably. Poorer fire performance than aluminium.

Timber

Traditional choice but requires regular painting, prone to rot and insect damage, shortest service life. For any project where long lasting, low maintenance roofline is the priority, aluminium is the better investment. Browse the full fascia and soffits collection.

Part of a Complete Aluminium Roofline System

The Type 2 fascia is one component in a fully colour matched roofline:

The fascia system works alongside aluminium copings, drip trims and the full rainwater goods range. For a completed project, see the facade upgrade case study.

Standards and Compliance

The powder coat finish is applied in line with BS EN 12206-1 for powder organic coatings on aluminium. Powder coated aluminium fascia achieves a fire classification of A2-s1,d0 under BS EN 13501-1, making it non-combustible and suitable for buildings of any height including high rise residential projects over 18 metres.
