2mm Aluminium Fascia – Internal Joiner | Type 3

Wherever two Type 3 fascia board lengths meet along a roofline run, the joint needs to be bridged and covered across all three bends. On a U-return profile, the joint is more critical than on simpler fascia types because the U-channel at the bottom must align precisely across the gap for the soffit to slide through without catching. Without a joiner, the expansion gap between lengths interrupts the U-channel, creating a snag point for the soffit and a visible break in the colour line.

The Type 3 internal joiner sits behind the fascia boards, bridging the expansion gap and holding both lengths in alignment across all three bends including the U-channel. A colour matched joint cover is then bonded over the front face for a flush, seamless finish. It is the smallest and cheapest fitting in the Type 3 system, but you need one at every joint along the run.

Product Overview

The 2mm aluminium fascia internal joiner from Online Metal Store Ltd is a connection piece for the Type 3 fascia profile. It bridges the expansion gap between two Type 3 fascia 3m lengths, holding them in alignment while allowing for thermal movement. The joiner maintains alignment across all three bends (top return, face, and U-return channel), keeping the enclosed eaves box continuous. Available in the same 14 depth options (150mm to 800mm), powder coated in any RAL colour.

You need one joiner for every joint between fascia lengths. Order in the same RAL colour and depth as your fascia lengths, external corners, internal corners and stopends. If your roofline uses a simpler profile, see the Type 1 joiner or Type 2 joiner.

Key Benefits

Maintains All Three Bends Across the Joint

The joiner bridges the expansion gap behind the face, top return, and U-return channel of the Type 3 profile. This keeps the soffit channel continuous across the joint, preventing the soffit from catching on a misaligned U-channel edge.

Allows for Thermal Expansion

Aluminium expands and contracts with temperature. A 3mm expansion gap between lengths is standard. The joiner bridges this gap while permitting movement.

14 Depth Options

Available in every depth from 150mm to 800mm to match the full Type 3 fascia range.

Powder Coated in Any RAL Colour

How to Fit a Type 3 Fascia Internal Joiner

Position the first Type 3 fascia 3m length and fix it to the rafter tails or backing timber. Slide the joiner onto the end of the first board so that it sits behind the fascia face and engages with the U-return channel. Butt the second fascia length up against the first, leaving a 3mm expansion gap. The joiner bridges this gap behind all three bends, holding the two lengths in alignment.

Bond a colour matched joint cover over the front face of the joint using low modulus silicone sealant. Apply a bead of colour coded sealant around the joint. The joint cover conceals the expansion gap and gives the fascia run a continuous appearance across all three bends of the Type 3 profile.

How Many Type 3 Fascia Joiners Do I Need?

One joiner for every joint between fascia lengths in a continuous straight run. Count the number of 3 metre lengths and subtract one.

  • 6m run (2 lengths): 1 joiner

  • 9m run (3 lengths): 2 joiners

  • 12m run (4 lengths): 3 joiners

  • 15m run (5 lengths): 4 joiners

Corners and stopends are separate fittings. The joiner is only for straight run joints.

Where Type 3 Fascia Joiners Are Used

Every Straight Type 3 Fascia Run Over 3 Metres

Any Type 3 roofline longer than 3 metres needs at least one joiner. On domestic properties across Chelmsford, Brentwood, Colchester and the South East, a typical elevation needs two or three.

Renovation and Timber Replacement

When replacing old timber fascia with Type 3 aluminium, count the joints before ordering.

Commercial Rooflines

On commercial buildings with long continuous Type 3 runs, the joiner count adds up. Order the correct quantity upfront to avoid delays.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Type 3 fascia joiner used for?

A Type 3 fascia joiner bridges the expansion gap between two Type 3 fascia board lengths in a straight run. It sits behind the fascia, maintaining alignment across all three bends (top return, face, and U-return channel). A colour matched joint cover is bonded over the front. Compare with the Type 1 joiner (single bend) and Type 2 joiner (two bend).

How many Type 3 fascia joiners do I need?

One per joint. Count the 3m lengths in a run and subtract one. A 9m run needs 2, a 12m run needs 3.

What size Type 3 fascia joiner do I need?

The joiner depth must match the fascia boards. Available in the same 14 sizes (150mm to 800mm).

How do you fit a Type 3 fascia joiner?

Slide onto the end of the first board so it engages with the U-channel. Butt the second board up with a 3mm gap. Bond a joint cover over the front with low modulus silicone. Seal with colour coded sealant.

Can the Type 3 joiner be colour matched?

Yes. Powder coated in any RAL colour. Order in the same RAL code as your Type 3 fascia lengths, corners and stopends.

Standards and Compliance

The powder coat finish is applied in line with BS EN 12206-1 for powder organic coatings on aluminium. Powder coated aluminium fascia fittings achieve a fire classification of A2-s1,d0 under BS EN 13501-1.
