2mm Aluminium Flat Coping – 1m Length | 75mm External Leg

The short infill section in the 2mm aluminium flat coping range. The 1m length earns its place in three specific situations: as the final piece at the end of a longer run where the remaining face length is under 2m, for genuinely short parapet sections where a 2m section would produce significant waste on a non-returnable product, and for tight-access positions where a longer section is difficult to handle or present to the wall. On a 7m parapet run, two 3m sections plus a 1m section gives 7m with two joints and no waste. Ordering a third 3m section and cutting 2m from it wastes £32.76 of made-to-order material with no installation benefit.

Available in 29 width sizes from 185mm to 885mm to match domestic and light commercial parapet wall widths, powder coated in any RAL colour, made to order at the Online Metal Store Ltd facility in Chelmsford.

When the 1m Section Is the Right Choice

Final Infill on a Longer Flat Coping Run

The most common use. On any parapet run that does not divide neatly into 2m or 3m sections, the 1m piece closes out the run. On a 7m face: two 3m sections and a 1m section. On a 5m face: two 2m sections and a 1m cut or 1m section. Ordering a 1m section for these infill positions is more economical than cutting from a longer section, as the 1m section is fabricated to the exact size needed rather than cut down from a longer piece.

Short Parapet Faces Under 2m

Some parapet sections are genuinely short: narrow return walls on extensions, gate piers on boundary walls, and short sections between door openings or openings in parapet walls. On a face of 800mm to 1800mm, a single 1m section with a short trim is more practical than ordering a 2m section and cutting almost half of it away.

Tight-Access Installation Positions

On parapet walls where access is restricted by an adjacent structure, a low rooflight, or an overhanging element that limits the length of section that can be presented to the wall, the 1m section is the practical choice. Using 1m sections only at these positions, rather than across the full run, keeps joint count as low as possible while addressing the access constraint.

Flat or Sloping Coping: What Is the Difference?

Flat coping has a level top surface that sits horizontally on the parapet, giving a clean straight line at building level. It suits contemporary domestic architecture, modern extensions and buildings where a minimalist parapet profile is specified. Sloping coping has a built-in slope that tilts toward the external face, actively draining rainwater off the surface. Both types use the same concealed bracket fixing method, but the profiles, corners and stopends are not interchangeable between systems. If the project calls for sloping coping, use the 2mm sloping coping range.

Key Benefits

  • Minimises waste on infill positions: ordering a 1m section for a 1m infill rather than cutting from a 2m or 3m section avoids wasting material on a non-returnable made-to-order product.

  • Flat horizontal profile: clean, level top surface for contemporary domestic architecture. Matches the adjacent 2m and 3m sections exactly so the installed parapet reads as a continuous uninterrupted line.

  • 29 domestic sizes: 185mm to 885mm in 25mm increments covers the full range of domestic and light commercial parapet wall widths.

  • Easy to handle in confined spaces: a 1m aluminium section weighs significantly less than a 3m section. Where one person needs to handle the section on a narrow scaffolding platform or in a tight access position, the 1m is the practical choice.

  • Can be cut to length on site: aluminium cuts cleanly with a fine-toothed hacksaw or metal-cutting saw. If the infill position is shorter than 1m, cut to the required length and fit a closed stopend at the cut end.

  • Any RAL colour, batch-matched: order in the same RAL as the 2m and 3m primary sections, corners, stopends and brackets for a colour-consistent installation from the same Chelmsford coating batch.

How to Calculate the Width Size

The 29 sizes from 185mm to 885mm are coping widths, not run lengths. Every section on this page is 1m long. Order the same width size as your 2m and 3m sections in the same flat coping run.

Formula: wall width + 170mm = size to order.

  • 90mm wide wall: 90 + 170 = 260mm

  • 165mm wide wall: 165 + 170 = 335mm

  • 240mm wide wall: 240 + 170 = 410mm

  • 340mm wide wall: 340 + 170 = 510mm

If the result falls between two available sizes, select the next size up. If you have already ordered 2m or 3m sections for the same run, order the same width size for the 1m infill piece.

Installation

Fix the 4mm aluminium coping brackets in position. For a 1m section, two brackets at approximately 700-800mm apart covers the section within the 1000mm maximum centre requirement. Apply a continuous bead of colour coded sealant in the matching RAL to the internal face of both joints where the 1m section butts up to adjacent sections. Press the 1m section onto the brackets and lock with colour coded fasteners in the matching RAL. Apply a neat finishing sealant bead on the external joint faces.

Where the 1m section forms a run terminal, fit a closed stopend at the terminal end. Where a cut section forms a terminal, fit the stopend on the cut face rather than leaving the cut aluminium end exposed.

Where the 1m Flat Coping Section Is Used

Infill at the End of Long Parapet Runs

On any domestic parapet run that does not divide neatly into whole 2m or 3m sections, the 1m piece is the efficient infill choice. On a 10m run, three 3m sections and a 1m section gives 10m with three joints and no waste. Ordering a fourth 3m section and cutting 2m from it wastes material on a non-returnable product.

Short Return Walls and Narrow Parapet Sections

On extensions with short return walls, gate piers, and parapet sections between openings, the 1m section is the natural fit. Paired with 2m sections and 3m sections on the longer faces, the 1m section handles the short positions without cutting waste from a longer section.

Tight-Access Positions on Restricted Scaffolding

On parapet walls at height where the working platform is narrow, an adjacent structure limits access, or an overhang restricts the length of section that can be presented to the wall, the 1m section is the practical choice. It weighs less, manoeuvres more easily in confined spaces, and can be fitted by one person in positions where a 3m section would require assistance.

Garden and Boundary Walls with Complex Geometry

On domestic garden walls with multiple changes of direction, steps, gate openings and curved sections, the parapet run produces a mix of face lengths. Some faces will be longer and suited to 2m or 3m sections; others will be short enough that the 1m section is the right single-piece solution. A well-planned order includes a mix of all three lengths to match the face dimensions across the full perimeter.

Why Aluminium for Short-Run Parapet Coping

On short parapet sections and boundary walls, the temptation is to use concrete or stone coping as a cheaper option. Concrete coping requires mortar bedding, cracks at joints under freeze-thaw cycling, and needs repointing over time. Aluminium flat coping at 1m section length requires no mortar, no pointing, and no maintenance beyond the periodic check that the sealant at joints is intact. For a domestic boundary wall expected to be maintenance-free for 20 years, aluminium is the more practical long-term choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I order a 1m section rather than 2m or 3m?

Order 1m sections for three situations: as the final infill piece at the end of a longer run where the remaining length is under 2m; for genuinely short parapet faces of 800mm to 1800mm where a 2m section would produce significant cutting waste; and for tight-access positions where a longer section cannot be handled. For medium faces of 2m to 5m, the 2m section is more efficient. For longer continuous runs, plan with 3m sections first.

What size do I need?

Wall width + 170mm = the size to order. Measure the parapet wall width at the top from outside face to inside face, then add 170mm. A 165mm wide wall gives 335mm. A 240mm wall gives 410mm. The 29 sizes are coping widths, not run lengths. Order the same width size as the 2m and 3m sections in the same run.

Can I cut the 1m section to a shorter length on site?

Yes. Aluminium cuts cleanly with a fine-toothed hacksaw, a metal-cutting circular saw blade, or an angle grinder with an aluminium-rated cutting disc. Cut square, file the cut edge smooth, and fit a closed stopend at any cut end that forms a run terminal rather than leaving the cut face exposed. On a non-returnable product, measure carefully before cutting.

What bracket do I use with 2mm flat coping?

The 4mm aluminium coping bracket is the correct bracket for all 2mm flat coping. For a 1m section, two brackets at approximately 700-800mm apart is the minimum. Do not use the 5mm bracket, which is for 3mm coping only.

Do I need to seal both joints on a 1m infill section?

Yes. Apply colour coded sealant in the matching RAL to the internal face of both joints where the 1m section butts up to the adjacent sections on either side. Both joints are weathertight seals. On an infill section where the 1m piece is flanked by longer sections, both joints are exposed to weather and both need a full, continuous sealant application.
